Mr. Kevin M. James is a former prosecutor and U.S. Justice Advisor. Mr. James completed three undergraduate degrees in Finance & Investment Banking, Geo-Strategic Politics, and American Law & Government with the City University of New York college system. He later went on to obtain his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
Mr. James served as a prosecutor at the Brooklyn’s District Attorney’s Office for over a decade as a Trial Prosecutor and Investigative Attorney. During his tenure at the District Attorney’s Office Mr. James attained the title of Deputy Bureau Chief and was involved in the investigation and prosecution of complex high-profile felony criminal cases, including criminal possession of narcotics, fraud, Cybercrimes, rape, homicides, armed robbery, criminal possession of weapons, unlawful use of force by police officers and a host of other criminal cases.
As Deputy Bureau Chief at the District Attorney’s Office Mr. James was also involved in the training of Assistant District Attorneys and Police Officers. Mr. James conducted regular trainings for The New York City Police Department over the course of his career. In addition, Mr. James has been a lecturer and adjunct professor at several Universities including John Jay College of Criminal Justice, his Alma Mater, Medgar Evers College, ASA College and the Koffi Annan Institute in Monrovia, Liberia (West Africa) in the areas of Criminal Justice and Law.
Mr. James was recruited and deployed for close to two years by the United States Department of State as a Rule of Law U.S. Justice Advisor in Afghanistan where he was tasked with capacity building and training of Afghan security sector personnel which included: Judges, Prosecutors, Defenses Attorneys, Military Police, Police and other law enforcement personnel. Mr. James quickly rose to become the Regional Team Leader for the Eastern Region of Afghanistan as well as the Co-Chairperson together with the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), of the Rule of Law Committee in the Eastern Region. In addition, Mr. James created, developed and trained Officers in Afghanistan’s equivalent of the FBI, the Major Crimes Task Force, in the field of undercover techniques. Mr. James’ program was credited by Afghanistan’s national government for capturing kidnapping gangs and saving hostages. As a result, Mr. James was awarded Afghanistan’s Police Gold Medal for his work.
Following his success in Afghanistan, Mr. James was later recruited and deployed to Liberia, West Africa for close to two years as a Rule of Law U.S. Justice Advisor specializing in combatting Sexual & Gender Based Violence. Mr. James was tasked with capacity building and training Liberian law enforcement personnel including: Judges, Prosecutors, Police Officers, forensic nurses and Defense Lawyers in combatting Sexual and Gender Based Violence and the protection of human rights.
Mr. James has been involved with numerous immigration cases from various countries from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. And, having lived in several countries around the world Mr. James understands many of the issues facing immigrants attempting to enter and live in the United States, not the least of which is, fleeing persecution from their home country.
Mr. James dedicates his time fighting for the rights of others and brings his knowledge, experience and compassion to every case he is involved with.
